Dr. Oakander is a Clinical Associate Professor with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine. She is a consulting psychiatrist at Community Addictions and Mental Health clinic Sunridge in Calgary Alberta where she works with a multidisciplinary team in the outpatient clinic.
Margie is Clinical Medical Director of Primary Care Liaison for the Calgary Region, assisting in program development and outreach to medical colleagues throughout the region.
In her role as Clinical Medical Director of the Southern Alberta Shared Mental Health Care program, she provides leadership to the program and collaborates with Family Physicians in the medical home around the mental health concerns of their patients.
Dr. Oakander consults at the Eastside Community Mental Health Center in Calgary, in a unique walk–in single session counseling setting in a high needs area of the city. She has presented locally and abroad on topics related to walk-in single session solution focused therapy and has participated in publications on the topic.

Dr. Oakander has been principal investigator in clinical trials in a variety of areas in Psychiatry and has been involved in Researcher initiated projects in her interest areas.
She has a passion for teaching undergraduate medical students, Family Practice and Psychiatry residents and multidisciplinary colleagues. She adores travel, loves reading, hiking, and spending time with her husband Pat and Bernese Mountain dog Bunsen
